                                   Swimming Holes to Olympic Pools

New York offers a tremendous range of swimming options from locals streams to Olympic-size pools used for regiional, state and national competitons and championships.   For many peope, swimming means a refreshing dip at the end of the day, or a chance to cool off from the heat or a relaxing pause after an outstanding hike on an Upstate trail.  From the Catskills to the Canadian border to Western New York, swimming in the outdoors is a great way to spend the day.

Cornell University and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point have the top collegiate swimming programs in Upstate New York.    NCAA swimming and diving provides a path the Olympics for many athletes.

At the high school level, there is active compeition throughout the state with the goal of reaching the State Championships. These competitions bring familes, friends and athletes from around the state to a central local to compete.  For the hosting community, it offer an opportunity to genate community pride and showcase all that the area has to offer guests.

                      Enfield Creek Falls

Robert H. Treman State Park is located in the Finger Lakes region along State Route 327.  The park offers a pool, picnic tables, playing fields, hiking and camping.  The park has numerous waterfalls along a 4.5-mile  round-trip hike. The hiking trails follow Enfield Creek, giving many views of the rock formations in the deep, narrow gorge known as Enfield Glen. A natural swimming pool is located at the easternmost waterfall, known as Lower Falls. 

 

                  Webster Aquatic Center

The Webster Aquatic Center is located in Rochester and has been home to numberous collegiate and high school diving and swimming competitions.  It has a proving history of organizing and events, which enables participants, friend and families to focus on the competition. Whether you are looking for a place to drop-in to swim, attend an aqua class or join one of our competitive swim or dive teams, the Webster Aquatic Center has everything

                                                                        Swimming Basics

Swimming is consistently among top recreational activities.  As a formalized sport, swimming features in a range of local, national, and international competitions, including every modern summer Olympics.

Diving is the sport entering the water from a platform or springboard, usually while performing acrobatics. Diving is an internationally recognized sport that is part of the Olympic Games. In addition, unstructured and non-competitive diving is a recreational pastime.

Diving is one of the most popular Olympic sports with spectators. Competitors possess many of the same characteristics as gymnasts and dancers, including strength, flexibility, judgement and air awareness. Some professional divers were originally gymnasts or dancers as both the sports have similar characteristics to diving.
